This weeks tribute is to a deserving and talented woman. Surrey England, on October 1, 1935, Julia Elizabeth Wells was born. This child grew to be the very beautiful and talented actress known to us all as Julie Andrews.

Although her parents had divorced, it was her step father, Ted Andrews that had the greatest effect on Julie's career. Ted Andrews hired Madame Lilian Stiles-Allen to give Julie voice lessons and encouraged her to practice her singing. Julie's voice was incredible, a four-octave range and the singing lessons only enhanced it.

November 1948, Julie had accomplished something that no other child performer had ever done. She was the youngest to ever perform solo at the London Palladium, where she performed for King George VI and some of the Royal Family members. Being already noted for such achievement's, Julie's career only continued to peek and later. By the young age of twenty one, Julie earned the part as Eliza Doolittle, in the Alan Lerner and Frederick Loewe musical production of My Fair Lady. Her performance as Eliza was so incredible that she earned her very first Tony award and her career continued to climb.

Julie had her fair shares of ups and downs. Her award winning roles included Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. With the medical situation that had impaired her ability to sing for many years, Julie Andrews still made great contributions in the entertainment world and May 2005, she became the Official Ambassador for Disneyland?s fiftieth anniversary of their theme park.

Julie being a great performer of days gone past, is still active in the movie industry. She plays the part of Clarisse Renaldi, queen of Genovia in Princess Diaries and Princess Diaries 2.

I was hoping to have a link for you to watch one or more of her great roles but unfortunately they seem to be unavailable. If you take the opportunity to rent or purchase a movie starring Ms. Andrews, it is well worth your time and investment.

Two highly recommended movies from this actress that moosegal would recommend: Sound Of Music and Mary Poppin.
